Notification
Novel tobacco products are tobacco products that do not fall into one of the categories cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco, pipe tobacco, water pipe tobacco, cigars, cigarillos, chewing tobacco, snuff or tobacco for oral use - and are to be placed on the market for the first time after 19 May 2014.
Pursuant to Section 10a of the Tobacco and Non-Smokers’ Protection Act (TNRSG), as of 1 January 2026, tince 1 January 2026, the placing on the market of novel tobacco products require notification via EU-CEG as well as payment of the applicable fee.
Fee
The "Notification Regulation on Nicotine, Nicotine Replacement Products and Tobacco Products (NTMelV)" establishes cost-covering fees for the notification of novel tobacco products.
The fee for the notification of a novel tobacco product pursuant to Section 10a of the Austrian Tobacco and Non-Smokers Protection Act (TNRSG) is EUR 3,000. Where a notification includes multiple product variants, the notification fee must be paid for each individual product variant^.
